Course content
1. Repetition or what we already know about communication: basic communication axioms and popular communication myths and fallacies. 2. Social perception and cognition: how we perceive ourselves and other people. Influence on social communication. Stereotypes of perception. 3. Verbal and/or non-verbal speech and its specifics. The face of the other person, the cooperative principle, the principle of (un)politeness. 4. The role of listening in communication; principles of listening; types of listening; errors in listening. 5. Speaking and its specifics I. Spoken vs. written form of communication. Direct vs. indirect speech. 6. Structure of spoken speech II. Basic types of spoken speeches. 7. Natural conversation as a basic form of communication. Social structure of dialogue. 8. Media dialogue. The role of questioning in the interview; typology of questions and the influence of questions on the way the interview is conducted. 9. Feedback and its role in communication. Feedback as a communication strategy. Feedback vs. reaction vs. evaluation. Structure of feedback. 10. Principles of healthy communication: characteristics of healthy communication; assertive communication and its rules; when assertiveness works, cultural conditioning of assertive behavior. 11. Constructive vs. manipulative criticism. Structure of constructive criticism. Accepting constructive criticism and rejecting manipulative criticism. 12. Culture and communication. Intercultural dimensions of communication.

Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Activating (Simulations, Games, Dramatization)
Learning outcomes
The aim is to familiarize participants with the basic topics, theories and concepts related to social communication. At the theoretical level, students will acquire the basic conceptual vocabulary to be able to analyse particular situations. Cultural, technological and social aspects of human communication will be followed. Space will be devoted not only to the analysis of chosen communication situations, but also to group discussions on the topics and especially to their reflection. The topics and situations are selected with reference to the main field of study in journalism.
Students acquire a set of key terms of social communication and interaction. Student are able to apply communication theory terms when analyzing current cultural and media issues.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of basic concepts in the field of human communication ( passing the course Introduction to Communication Studies).

Dialog, Written exam

CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING COURSE CREDIT: Regular attendance (a maximum of 2 unexcused absences; any additional absences must be documented, and an adequate replacement must be arranged with the instructor). Active participation in lectures and seminars. Completion of partial tests in Moodle within the assigned deadlines (pass threshold: 70%). CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING THE COLLOQUIUM: Written test.
