Course content
1st Textuality versus nature. Textuality versus civilization (from St. Augustine to J. Lotman). 2nd Tale as an allegory of history (the brothers Grimm, JV Propp). 3rd Kitchen and symbolism of life cycle (Diderot, Levy Strauss). 4th Culture allegory versus media. Semantics of the urban structure (Benjamin). 5th Culture as identity reading of the world (? The world is what may become the subject of communication.? H. Weinrich). 6th Material culture of communication (from the Bronze Age to PC). 7th Civilizational resources symbolism and poetics surrealizmu (Derrida). 8th Consumption of communication (marketing, advertising, promotion and cultural segmentation of civilization spaces). 9th Fact, fiction, style? metaphysics of everyday life. Visual culture, videokultura and speech. 10th Culture as a medium of authority. Globalization of culture and idenity crisis. Culture and the target population. Culture as a character system. Culture as a standard of values? right as the text. 11th Culture, freedom, respect, anarchy. Morality as text.

Learning outcomes
The content of the course is to acquaint students with the structure and dynamics of cultural phenomena in the strategic triangle of binary oppositions: Cult-ra-Civilization-Nature.
Students acquire basic knowledge about of the current debate within Semiotics. Student are able to apply semiotical terms when analyzing current cultural and media issues.
