Course content
1st Topic: multi-paradigm structure of Sociology: micro versus macro, Consensus x conflict or interaction? 2nd Topic: methodological excursion: Durkheim, Dilthey, Weber, Mills, Giddens 3rd Topic: Theory of crowd: Lebon, Freud, Gasset 4th Topic: Critical Theory: Frankfurt School: Adorno, Marcuse (one-dimensional man), Habermas (theory of communicative action) 5th Topic: Symbolic interactionism: Mead - concept gestures, the importance of language and communication 6th Topic: anthropological lines of reasoning: Lévy-Strauss (theory of binary opposition), Geertz (concise description) 7th theme: conceptualizing modern society: Simmel, Bell, Beck, Giddens, Baumann, Lipovetsky, 8th Topic: sociology of knowledge and tradition of social constructivism, Schutz (fenimenologie), Berger Luckman + (social construction of reality)

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with sociological approaches, authors and theories, which followed media sociology, theory of mass communication and media studies. The course consists of theoretical basis for further studies in the field of thinking about media and communication. Discussed will include Dilthey, Weber, Mead, Schutz, Habermas, Berger and Luckman, Bourdieu and others.
Developing of knowledge of theory of social sciences, key authors and concepts.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of sociological thinking, key theories and authors.

Essay

Active participation in seminar lessons, final essay.
