Course content
1. Topic introduction - contemporary understanding of rhetoric 2. Nonverbal communication: types of nonverbal signals (symbols, illustrators, regulators, adapters) and types of nonverbal statements (proxemics, haptics, postures, kinesics, gestures, eye gaze) 3. Rhetoric style and rhetoric genres 4. Preparation of public speech 5. Rules of informative speech 6. Rules of persuasive speech 7. Rhetoric decorations - figures, tropes and nonfigural devices 8. Figures and tropes - suggestive, emphatic, graphic (visual) and decorative 9. Politeness and tact in language and speech 10. Chosen principles of rhetoric - summary

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Work with Text (with Book, Textbook), Activating (Simulations, Games, Dramatization)
Learning outcomes
Chosen principles of classical and modern rhetoric about adequate, impressive, comprehensive and cultivated speaking towards listener or reader in particular rhetoric genres focused on public speeches.
Ability of smart, persuasive and cultivated speech.
Prerequisites
We recommend to pass the following courses before signing in rhetoric: Introduction to language studies (KZU/USJB), Contemporary Czech language 1 (KZU/SCJB1) and Contemporary Czech language 2 (KZU/SCJB2).

Assessment methods and criteria
Essay, Analysis of linguistic, Didactic Test

a) written test based on course program: focused on accurate interpretation of terms b) written credit paper: usage of correct language, stylistically cultivated and rhetorically inspired speech written on given topic and rhetoric genre c) verbal presentation: stylistically cultivated and rhetorically smart presentation on given topic and rhetoric genre, attention will be paid also to the usage of correct language
