The nature of women - a woman under protection. Women 'good and bad. 4. Family and society. Trends in the Early Middle Ages. 5. Family and society. Developments in the late Middle Ages (Italy, Burgundy). 6. Three people. Court and its culture - the status of women 7. Image of women. World women. Woman displayed. 8. Women own words. Woman in the literature. Confession. 9. Medieval household. 10. Medieval woman mystic. 11. Methods of addressing the society.

Learning outcomes
|
The course shall submit a comprehensive overview of current research in the field of Medieval Gender Studies, especially Women Studies, considering several aspects: daily routines, narrative structures of the source (especially from a hagiographic point of view). The cult of saints - a specific phenomenon of the Middle Ages and its models - is one of the pillars of the course. Special attention is drawn to female monasticism, especially mysticism.
Students will acquire an understanding of the contemporary level of gender issues (medieval history).

Seminar Work
- active participation in the class discussions - comprehensive knowledge of seminar readings for seminars - seminar work submitted a week before colloquium (5 standard pages on approved topic) -knowledge of the discussed terms and concepts will be verified in colloquium
