Course content
1) Assumptions of a news development - economic, political, technical, education. 2) Ancestors Czech newspaper (15th - 17th century), attempts on the issue of the German periodical newspapers; beginnings of censorship. 3)´The beginnings of modern Czech journalism - people (including Rosenmüller, Kramerius), the first Czech magazines. 4) Czech journalism at the time of Františkovská Metternich absolutism and during the revolution of 1848 - 1849. 5) Czech journalism in the 50th - 80 the 19th century - the political pro-government newspaper 50th years, political periodicals 60th years, magazines. 6) Czech journalism 90th of the 19th century and early 20th century - The emergence of modern political parties and the press. 7) Czech journalism after 1918 - press corporations, agencies, radio, film, political and apolitical periodicals. 8) Czech journalism during the Second Republic (1938 - 1939) - Changes in the structure of the press. 9) Press during the Nazi occupation - the Protectorate, illegal, foreign press. 10) Press and release practices. 11) Journalistic organization.

Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the basic milestones of development of Czech and international media. Attention is paid to the beginnings of mass communication, the first "technical revolution" associated with the invention of the printing press, the predecessors of the periodical press, the first printed media, the beginnings of regular reporting and its development. The course highlights the emergence of mass printing and selectively changes the media during the 19 century and the first part of the 20th century. To understand social trends is the interpretation placed into context with political, economic, social and cultural history and technological development. Attention is also paid to the legal aspects of the development of media and censorship.
Orientation in the development of Czech journalism, development periodicals, genres.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the base Czechoslovak and European history, passing the course Czech History of the 18. - 20. century

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Test - answer questions based on the topics of the course.
