The texts are of various genres: 1.-3. Interpretation of scientific and research articles. 4.-6. Interpretation of articles about technology. 7.-10. Interpretation of scholarly articles. 11.-12. Individual interpretation and the presentation of conclusions. 13. Credit session.

Learning outcomes
|
The course on text interpretation focuses on a wide spectrum of approaches to understanding and translating text. The theory of text interpretation deals with individual levels of text analysis, their classification and the mental processes applied in interpretation. The texts to be discussed are selected from various genres and we shall pay attention to the individual interpretations and their features. In the first term we shall focus on the scientific text ? mostly articles - dealing with technology and scholarly disciplines. Emerging individual approaches of students from their translation practice are accepted and discussed.
The students will be able to understand a text they read, to dissect it into smaller portions, to interpret it and to reproduce the gist information.

Prerequisites
|
A good knowledge of general and specialized translation methods, complex constructions and syntactical structures. An experience with translation of various texts.

- knowledge of the theory of interpretation - an ability to apply various modes of interpretation - in-class translation of texts - submitting written translation of a given text from Ukrainian to Czech language - submitting a translation of terminology
