Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the development of Ukrainian literature during the postmodern era, specifically the post-Chernobyl period up to approximately 2015. Ukrainian postmodern literature of the post-Chernobyl era often reflects the collapse of the Soviet world, the search for a new national identity, and the existential uncertainty of both the individual and society. Authors employ fragmentation, irony, and linguistic play to capture the chaos of transformation and the clash of different cultural strata. Also characteristic are the deconstruction of grand ideologies, the blurring of reality and fiction, and a return to historical traumas (including Chernobyl). The aim is to familiarize students with significant authors of this period.
Understanding the modern and postmodernist Ukrainian literature.
