This course is focused on exercising the basic translation methods (compensation, amplification, deletion) on concrete texts of various functional styles (mainly journalistic and scientific). We shall apply various stages of equivalence and focus on translation of terminology and specific phrases. Attention shall also be paid to word order in the terminological phrases. We shall also stress the importance of extralinguistic factors, which is one of the basic features of functional approach to communication in theory and practice alike. The translatological methods are applied to the texts concerning the topic of economy, law, tourism and healthcare. Students will gradually acquire the necessary vocabulary and terminology. The basic topic is divided into sub-topics.
Students will learn how to translate accurately a more complex text from Ukrainian into Czech, how to analyse special texts and look for adequate terms in their mother tongue and how to find the gist of information, dissect the text and produce an adequate translation.
