Course content
1. Law - Introductory Lecture Students will be introduced to the concept and defining characteristics of law as a normative system. This introductory lecture presents the essential terminology required for subsequent topics. The lecture will focus on legal dualism, legal cultures, the taxonomy of law, and sources of law. 2. Public Law This topic addresses the theories of legal dualism and focuses on the fundamental characteristics of public law. 3. Legal Norms, Statutory Law, and the Legal Order This section elucidates the formal sources of law, their hierarchy, publication in the Collection of Laws, the structure of a legal norm, the distinction between jus cogens and jus dispositivum norms, and the fundamental methods of legal interpretation. 4. Fundamentals of Constitutional Law Students will gain an overview of the constitutional organization of the state and the separation of powers among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, including the specific status of the Constitutional Court. The legislative process is also covered. 5. Fundamental Rights This topic analyzes fundamental rights originating primarily from the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, and the resolution of conflicts between them using the proportionality test. Furthermore, the lecture will focus on the prohibition of both direct and indirect discrimination. 6. Public Administration The lecture will focus on the organization, operation, and structure of public administration, covering both general administrative law and a brief overview of selected aspects of the special part of administrative law. 7. Administrative Proceedings and Administrative Punishment This section provides a description of administrative proceedings, their fundamental principles, evidence, the structure of administrative decisions, the filing of appeals, and the fundamentals of administrative punishment. 8. Fundamentals of Criminal Law The lecture introduces the fundamental institutes of the general part of criminal law. 9. Fundamentals of Civil Law, including Family Law In addition to the core institutes of the General Part of the Civil Code and the law of obligations, the topic covers family law issues: marriage, partnership, parental responsibility, community property of spouses, and maintenance obligations. It also encompasses the Act on Social and Legal Protection of Children. 10. Fundamentals of Labor Law The lecture analyzes the core institutes of the Labor Code (and subsidiarily the Civil Code), issues of unemployment, and the pillars of social security law.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject "Introduction to the Law" is to gain basic knowledge of the Theory of Law. The student should be able to understand and use basic legal terminology. The knowledge of the Theory of Law is the basis for subsequent legal subjects. The student will understand main legal terms and legal institutes and will be able to use these terms and institutes in both public and private branches of law, such as Constitutional, Criminal, Civil and Family law.
