1. Introduction to Contemporary Latin American Literature through the Concept of Subalternity. 2. The Body as Territory in Contemporary Latin American Narrative. 3. Literature, Archives, Testimony, and Memory. 4. Experimentation, Performance, and Collective Authorship.

|
Analysis of contemporary Latin American literature focused on the relationship between aesthetic form and subaltern position. The course begins with a theoretical framework (Spivak, Cornejo Polar, García Canclini, Rama, Ludmer, Garramuňo, Ranciére, Bourriaud) and proceeds through three thematic axes: the body as a territory shaped by labor, illness, and animality (Eltit, Meruane, Tarazona); migration and forced displacement (Luiselli, Balam Rodrigo); and forms of community and collective experimentation (Rivera Garza, Guillermoprieto, Zelko). Students work on one of the texts included in the syllabus and present a final paper based on a reading hypothesis agreed upon with the instructor.
