| Course content |
|
The course will cover the following blocks: 1. Introduction to contemporary Hispano-American literature: definition of the terms boom, post-boom, and postmodernism; historical-cultural and socioeconomic context. 2. Authors of the so-called transición at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. Literary tendencies of the period will be illustrated through the works of authors such as Manuel Puig and Reinaldo Arenas. 3. The post-boom of Hispano-American prose: the basic paradigm in the works of Antonio Skármeta, Mempo Giardinelli, Isabel Allende, Luisa Valenzuela, and others. 4. Postmodernism in Hispano-American prose from Jorge Luis Borges to contemporary authors (Sergio Pitol, Ricardo Piglia, Diamela Eltit, Roberto Bola?o, and others). 5. Important anthologies of the last decades.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the main trends in Hispano-American literature from the 1970s to the present. The course follows the development and transformations of Hispano-American prose in particular, within the frameworks of the concepts of the Boom, the Post-Boom, and postmodernism.
The aim of the course is to gain knowledge of the studied literary works within the historical, social, and cultural context of their time. |
