The course offers student an opportunity of educational stay at the Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, more precisely at the Institute's Grammar Department; at the Department of Philosophy and History of Science of the Charles University Faculty of Science; at the Institute of the Czech National corpus of the Charles University Faculty of Arts and Philosophy; and at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics of the Charles University Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. The Grammar Department will allow students to learn about the details of creation of the new Czech grammar book, watch the Department at work and consult selected grammatical phenomena or problems, discuss their approach to creation of grammar books or questions of language culture. During the stay, a separate grammatical study will be created by the students under tutelage of a member of the Department. As part of cooperation with the Department of Philosophy and History of Science, FF UP students can travel to selected lectures of international experts mostly from the fields of biosemiotics and theoretical biology. They will then consult the lecture with members of the Department of General Linguistics and comment on it in a brief text. At the Institute of the Czech National Corpus of the Charles University Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, students will take part in instruction course on operating the Bonito corpus manager and other interfaces, as well as on methods of corpus analysis and corpus creation. The Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics of the Charles University Faculty of Mathematics and Physics will allow students to get acquainted with the Institute's activities (audiovisual centre MATLACH, software for linguistic analysis, etc.) and are instructed in use of the Prague Dependency Treebank of Spoken Czech.
