Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces the aims, subject matter, and methods of musicology and provides an outline of its history, including major trends, approaches, scholars, and key writings.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to describe the subject matter, aims, and basic methods of musicology and demonstrate an understanding of its historical development, major trends, and approaches. They will have a basic knowledge of key musicological literature, major scholars, and institutions in the field.

Prerequisites
|
A basic knowledge of music, culture, and history is expected. No prior knowledge of musicology or its methods is required.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Written exam
A minimum of 75% attendance and active participation in classes are required. Students must complete all assigned seminar tasks to the required standard (all sources used in written assignments must be properly cited; assignments will be subject to plagiarism checks).
