Chapters from the History of Popular Music 3, Progressive rock trends of the 1970s This course aims to explore the phenomenon of progressive rock, its origins in the 1960s and its specific areas in the 1970s. Through selected chapters and case studies, students will be introduced to the historical, aesthetic, and theoretical issues of the movements in question; they will also be introduced to their broader sociocultural meanings and functions.
The student will gain knowledge about the characteristics of rock music of the late 1960s and 1970s. He/she will understand the specifics of individual rock styles of the given era, will be able to define, compare and put them in context.
