?This course will examine current trends and issues in the field of American Music Theory. We will discuss how theorists use different methodological approaches to analysis, pedagogy, music theory, and media. In addition, we will look at essential materials like scholarly journals, edited collections, and audio/visual publications to understand that questions theorists are asking now, what repertoire they consider, and how they engage with music and theories of the past. In the course of this study, we will look at how American and European music theory compares with respect to topics and publication outcomes.
