Course content
Reading and translation of simple edited or authentic Latin texts designed primarily to practice the translation of Latin text into Czech. The content of the reading consists of (slightly modified) texts: De Diogene. Responsum laconicum. De Romulo et Remo. De Odysseo et Aenea. De rapina Sabinarum. De Atalanta. Latin banners with dates and cryptograms. Proverbs and short texts with infinitive ties. Modified text: C.I. Caesar, De bello Gallico. Listening and translation of the medieval anthem: Ave maris stella, Ad galli cantum. Vulgata. Sulpicius Severus, Vita Martini. Cosmas Pragensis, Chronica Bohemorum. Listening and translation of the text: Carmina Burana.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to provide students with the opportunity to practice Latin grammar on simple continuous texts, first slightly modified, and later on original Latin texts. The students will acquire basic skills for translating shorter continuous Latin text into Czech and gain experience in searching for the necessary vocabulary.
The students will practice and consolidate their knowledge of Latin grammar as discussed in lessons of Latttin for historians and archivists and will acquire skills necessary for translating a continuous Latin text.
Prerequisites
The course is designed for students who have completed the basic Latin course fduring at least one semester (in the extent of the course XJLA1 or YJLA1). It is suitable as a complementary course to XJLA2.
