Course content

The study materials consist of selected materials from various textbooks of German as a foreign language, with a particular focus on developing speaking skills, listening comprehension, and preparation for Goethe and ÖSD language examinations. The materials are selected according to the current language level and needs of the students and are made available progressively in Moodle. The course focuses primarily on the practical development of spoken communication at levels B2 to C1. Students expand their vocabulary and practise argumentation, expressing their own opinions, responding in everyday and academic communication situations, and working with different types of tasks used in language examinations. Regular listening-comprehension practice is also included. Each student prepares and gives an approximately ten-minute presentation during the semester. As the course is based on practical exercises, active participation is required. A maximum of two unexcused absences is permitted. Successful completion of the presentation is a requirement for receiving course credit.

Learning outcomes
|
In this course we work with different German as a foreign language textbooks. The main goal is to improve your own oral speaking skills at level B2 to C1. We use various materials from textbooks that prepare students for the Goethe or ÖSD language exams. We also practice listening comprehension. Students complete a presentation of approximately ten minutes, which they have to give during the semester. As the course is practice-based, a maximum of two absences are permitted. The presentation is mandatory in order to receive the course confirmation.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to communicate in German at B2 to C1 level with greater fluency, accuracy, and confidence. They will be able to express their own views clearly, respond appropriately in a range of communicative situations, and participate in discussions on everyday, academic, and more specialised topics. Students will have improved their comprehension of authentic spoken German and will be able to identify both the main information and relevant details. They will be familiar with the principal task types used in Goethe-Institut and ÖSD language examinations and will be able to apply appropriate communication and listening strategies. They will also be able to prepare and deliver an approximately ten-minute presentation in German, structure it coherently, and respond appropriately to follow-up questions.
