Course content
|
A series of lectures delivered by visiting scholars, providing students with an insight into selected historical and contemporary aspects of primarily Austrian, but also other German-language, literature, culture, history, intellectual history, art history, as well as social, political, and media developments. Sample programme: Introduction and a short workshop (approx. 45-60 minutes) as preparation for the reading by Reinhard Kaiser-Mühlecker Prof. Gabriela Scherer (RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau): Lecture on the Austrian young adult novel Das Papierklavier by Elisabeth Steinkellner Reinhard Kaiser-Mühlecker: Reading from his new novel Brennende Felder Dr. Aneta Jachimowicz (University of Olsztyn): Historical Novels of the Interwar Period Prof. Marija Wakounig and Mag. Luděk Němec (University of Vienna): The Nobility of Bohemia and Moravia in the Transformations of the Twentieth Century (lecture in German and Czech)

|
The aim of the series of lectures delivered by visiting lecturers is to provide students with an insight into selected historical and contemporary manifestations of primarily Austrian, as well as other German-language, literature, culture, history, intellectual history, art history, and social, political, and media developments.
Students will acquire an overview of selected historical and contemporary developments in Austrian and other German-language literature, culture, and society. They will be able to place the topics discussed within their broader historical and cultural context, critically reflect on their significance, and discuss them in an informed academic context.

Prerequisites
|
The lecture series is open to all students of Palacký University with a good command of German.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
If possible, participation in lectures/workshops, successful completion of a final test (at least 55 %) to verify the knowledge acquired during the events held as part of the cycle.
