The seminar focuses on the writings and concepts of Mark Fisher, who was a writer, music critic and cultural theorist. The term 'hauntology' was coined by Jacques Derrida in his book Spectres of Marx to describe that which is no longer or not yet. Fisher, who probably described hauntology best, states that: 'What haunts the digital cul-de-sacs of the twenty-first century is not so much the past as all the lost futures that the twentieth century taught us to anticipate.' (2012: 16) Hauntology can help us to understand our position in the Anthropocene, and it can be applied to various fields of knowledge and disciplines. In his other writings, Fisher introduces the concepts of 'the weird' ('that which does not belong', ibid.: 10) and 'the eerie' (that which has been lost). All three concepts invite an engagement with the horror genre, but they can also be considered in a variety of ways. In this seminar, we will read and debate Fisher's works, applying his concepts to films and TV programmes ranging from sci-fi and horror to historical drama.
Studující budou schopni vysvětlit vybrané teorie intermediální analýzy a překladu jakožto kulturní adaptace a ukázat jejich možnou aplikaci na konkrétní AV materiál. Porozumí pojmu referenční/autoritativní kultura a budou schopni na příkladu kultury antické pojmenovat různé způsoby její recepce.
