Course content
|
The course will be divided into several blocks, with a significant portion of the time dedicated to attending performances, watching recordings, and discussing these experiences. Students will analyze a diverse range of performances, from traditionally conceived theatrical productions to various non-artistic cultural forms.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the Analysis of Performance 2 course is to deepen the knowledge and skills acquired in the previous semester, particularly in the area of reflecting on the spectator's experience. The course will focus on analyzing time-space, actors, corporeality, atmosphere in performances and others. Teaching will be conducted in two parallel groups and divided into several thematic blocks, encompassing examples from both performing arts and a broader range of non-artistic cultural performances.
Upon completing the course, students are able to independently and systematically analyse theatrical performances as well as other performative forms. They can identify and interpret their key components and the relationships between them, particularly spatiotemporality, scenography, agency, acting, corporeality, lighting, sound, atmosphere, emotion, affect, and immersion. In their analyses, they combine reflection on their own experience as spectators with specialist terminology, theoretical concepts, and a broader cultural context. They are able to formulate their conclusions clearly, accurately, and with well-supported arguments, both in oral discussion and in written analytical work.

Prerequisites
|
An interest in developing skills in scholarly discussion and the analysis of selected performances, as well as in gaining familiarity with contemporary performance art and its diverse forms.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Essay, Student performance
Active participation in class and in-person attendance at selected theatre performances are mandatory. This includes various trips to attend theatre productions and other performative events, including those taking place outside Olomouc. Students are also required to complete ongoing assignments both in and outside the classroom.
