Course content
1. Color semantics in language: linguistic research of basic colors (Berlin and Key and others) 2. Conceptual and cultural meanings of colors in language 3. Semantics of Colors in Art Texts (Text Meanings) 4. Colors on the background of quantum-corpus analysis 5. Colors in Karel Hynek Mácha's Prose: Statistical Analysis and Interpretation 6. Colors in selected Karel Čapek's prose: statistical analysis and interpretation 7. Stratification model of basic colors in prose of Jan Čep 8. Interpretation of the stratification model of colors in the prose of Jan Čep (Double Home, Vigil, Earthlord) 9. Interpretation of the stratification model of the color model in Jan Čep's prose (Pentecost, Leaky Cloak, Shadow Border) 10. Interpretation of the stratification model of colors in Jan Čep's prose (Blue and Gold, Face under the Web, Field Grass)

Learning outcomes
The seminar will focus on the analysis of fictional semantics of colors in prose of selected Czech authors. At first, students will learn about the different approaches to semantics of basic colors as offered by selected areas of linguistics, and will also try to think of fictive semantics of colors as, on the one hand, self-meaning quality, on the other hand, as a quality conditioned by so-called conceptual and generally cultural meanings. The seminar will work with electronic corpora.

Prerequisites
Completion of basic literary and linguistic disciplines within the undergraduate studies.
