Course content
1. Center and periphery in the vocabulary. Changes between the center and the periphery. 2. Patterns of the evolution, extralanguage influences. 3. Dynamics of the lexical macro- and microsystems. 4. Tendency to language economy. 5. Professinal terminology and its influence on the vocabulary. 6. Stabilization processes in vocabulary. 7. Other languages´influence on the Czech vocabulary (till 19th century). 8. Other languages´influence on the Czech vocabulary (20th century, globalization, perspectives). 9. Purism in the Czech vocabulary. 10. Functional stratification of Czech vocabulary. 11. Practical aspects of the evolution processes in vocabulary.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to demonstrate patterns of dynamic processes in the Czech lexicon and to describe aspects affecting the dynamics of the evolution. The teaching is focused on the acquisition of theoretic knowledges and its practising.
Students of the course know the basic principles of changes in vocabulary. They know the contemporary tendencies of evolution of the Czech lexicon and they are able to find out relevant examples. Students of the course obtain skills in work with lexicographic sources.

Self study of the field literature (min. 300 pages); ability to work with language material and to work with digital corpora; seminar project (min. 5 pages).
