Course content
Table of Contents Book Studies II covers roughly the following topics: 1. Reading: how do we read? Mechanisms of reading. 2. M. de Certeau: Reading as poaching; R. Chartier: reading as appropriation of the text. 3. Reading as a social activity: reading societies and clubs. 4. Historical transformation of reading communities and case studies. 5. The publishing field: methods of analysis and description. 6. Basic developments of the American book market in the 20th century as an example. 7. Basic development tendencies of the Czech book market (summary only). 8. Circular economy in the book market. 9. Ecology, sustainability and bibliodiversity.

Learning outcomes
Book Studies II builds on the course of the same name from the winter semester (in the standard course of the academic year) and introduces students to other topics from this field of research and application. The course focuses mainly on 3 thematic areas: the social function and social form of reading, the state and knowledge of the publishing field and issues of sustainability, recycling economy and bibliodiversity. Additional topics will turn to some methodological issues such as Media archaeology or New historicism. The course has three face-to-face tutorials and self-paced study support.
