Course content
1) Stylistic analysis of authentic texts. 2) Assigning the text to the appropriate style and genre, knowledge of the rules of construction of selected genres. 3) Functional use of lexical, morphological and syntactic means. 4) Selection of expressive means according to the context and function of the communication.

Learning outcomes
Work in the seminar will focus on the analysis of authentic texts of various styles. Students will be encouraged to recognize the basic function of the text; given the prevailing function, they will assess the suitability of the means of expression used and, if necessary, to replace them with adequate means. At first, texts of simple and publicistic style will be analyzed, basic genres, compositional rules and style requirements will be recalled. The use of the lexicon will follow, the syntactic construction of the testimonies (use of the means of communication, the degree of complexity of the hierarchy, the occurrence of active and passive structures, the used word order and the textbook etc.), morphological norms etc.
Students analyze authentic texts of various styles, are able to recognize the basic functions of the text; considering the prevailing function, they will assess the appropriateness of the means of expression used and, if necessary, replace them with adequate means. First, texts of simple and journalistic style will be analyzed, basic genres, compositional rules and style requirements will be recalled. This will be followed by the use of lexis, syntactic construction of statements (use of means of communication, degree of complexity of hierarchy, occurrence of active and passive structures, word order and textbooks used, etc.), morphological norms, etc.
Prerequisites
Students are able to use Czech language at level B1 of the European reference framework.

Written exam

Students read and interpret texts at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference.
