Aims of the subject: Presentation of the structure of the Czech vocabulary, its basic units and their mutual relationships; understanding the semantics of words; systematic development of students' lexical competence; demonstration of the use of Czech dictionaries. Main topics: Synonyms, antonyms, and polysemous words; marked and unmarked words and their identification; Czech phraseology and its usage; word formation; Czech dictionaries (explanatory, etymological, and phraseological dictionaries).

The course graduate is familiar with the basic terminology of the field. They are able to describe the internal structure of a word and its position within the lexical system. They understand the structure of the lexical system and the relationships within it, and are capable of applying theoretical knowledge in the description of Czech vocabulary.
