The seminar deals with the relation of a spoken text and its theoretical background; Paul Grice?s conversational analysis theory, co-operation principle, conversational maxims of quality, quantity, manner and relation are only used as a basis for semantic and pragmatic analysis of modal particles in dialogues between a doctor and a patient. Materials for analysis will be provided by the Czech National Corpus of spoken language. The analysis will focus on modal verbs, adverbials particles etc.
