Learning outcomes
The course focuses on critical reflection on the traditional canon of modern architecture history, constructed according to categories of style, significant works of art, and founding figures. Students will become more familiar with the historical narrative associated with architects Adolf Loos, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Mies van der Rohé. The course aims to present lesser-known aspects of the lives and work of these creators, with a special focus on their supporters, collaborators, their creative background, the broader context of their lives and work, the mechanisms of self-promotion, and the functioning of their architectural offices. The course points to the possibility of changing perspectives in the traditional historical narrative, the team nature of the architectural profession, and the wide range of factors that shape the historical narrative.
