Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to comprehensively familiarize students with the agenda of UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage, from the basis in the 1972 Convention, through technical and practical requirements (implementation of the Convention in the field). As a seminar paper, students will attempt to prepare an outline of a nomination file for a site with its essential requirements: a statement of outstanding universal value with reference to the criteria of outstanding universal value, a comparative study, and a management plan for the site. Teaching in English enables international students (Erasmus+, etc.) to participate and enrich the course.
Students will become familiar with key aspects of the UNESCO World Heritage agenda, expand the international and practical context of their primary art-historical knowledge and methodological skills, and acquire the basic skills required for professional work with World Heritage sites (nomination, comparison, monitoring, and management).
