Course content
Students will progressively present the structure of their master's theses, their research hypotheses, and their research questions during individual seminars. Topics: 1. Structure of an academic thesis and its formal requirements 2. Academic writing styles and conventions in relation to the tradition of art history in the Czech lands 3. Formulation of the thesis objective and research hypothesis 4. Methodology and conceptual framework of the thesis 5. The balance between analysis and synthesis in academic writing 6. Description, commentary, and critical reflection as means of addressing scholarly issues in academic texts 7. The lexical aspects of academic writing, terminology, and its application in sentences and statements 8. Structure of a critical review of previous research on the chosen topic as a mandatory component of the thesis 9. Citation standards of the journal Umění and methods of citing unpublished (archival) sources 10. Preparation of footnotes and bibliography 11. Analysis and comparison of works of art 12. Preparation of appendices (compilation of materials, lists, captions, and references) 13. The relationship between the written text and its presentation (thesis defense)

Learning outcomes
The seminar focuses on advanced writing of a thesis with an emphasis on formulating the objectives of the work, research questions, and methods of the chosen art history topic. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on acquiring the skills of professional argumentation, conducting factual discussions, improving oral presentation skills in discussions, acquiring the specifics of working with sources and literature, and considering the practical applicability of the topic being addressed. Knowledge of the citation standards of the academic journal Umění is expected. The prerequisite for completing the course is the completion of the course Thesis Assignment. The course is taught in Czech.
Upon completion of the course, students will have developed a detailed structure for their master's thesis, formulated a working hypothesis, and defined their research questions.
Prerequisites
Enrollment in the course is conditional upon successful completion of the course Master's Thesis Assignment (DVU/MZDP).

Assessment methods and criteria

Assessment Requirements: Successful presentation of the student's master's thesis project, including participation in the subsequent discussion. Preparation for seminars according to the teacher's current assignments. Active participation in seminar sessions. Minimum attendance requirement: 80%. Literature for the master's thesis: Specified by the thesis supervisor in the Master's Thesis Assignment and further identified by the student in accordance with the specific research topic and objectives.
