Why is Taiwan important? This course, open to both Bachelor's and Master's students, explores Taiwan's foreign policy and how Taiwan is perceived and received worldwide. Following introductory sessions on Taiwan's history, politics, economy, and society (led by the lecturer and invited guest speakers), the course delves into foreign policy. Students will choose a case study country (for example, Czechia, Eswatini, Japan, etc.) and examine its relations with Taiwan, including a short analysis of two questions from an original survey on international perceptions of Taiwan (where available). They will then present their findings to the class. The lecturer will provide step-by-step guidance, and no prior experience with survey data analysis or knowledge of Taiwan is required.

In order to pass this course (get "zápočet"), students need to fulfill the following: - Attendance: no more than 3 absences - Class presentation: sign up for a topic (case study), 15-minute presentation (in groups) - Exam: fill in 4 out of 5 short essay-style questions (receive at least 60% on the test) |
