Course content
|
The course comprises two parts: Japanese writing exercises and Japanese conversation at the intermediate level. Writing Exercises: Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of writing style and the differences between spoken and written Japanese. The core of this course component involves practicing the composition of short texts on simple topics (both as homework assignments and during class). Key topics: 1. Use of genk? y?shi / basic differences between spoken and written Japanese 2. Describing experiences / practical review of particle usage / in-class composition of short texts 3. Conjunctions, logical structure, paragraphing / practical exercises 4. Expressing cause and effect / in-class composition of short texts 5. Expressing personal opinions / New Year's greetings / analysis of common writing errors 6. Differences in written style levels / introduction to academic/formal writing styles Conversation: This part of the course focuses on practicing spoken Japanese. The goal is to develop the ability to speak Japanese actively, as well as to correctly interpret spoken Japanese and respond appropriately to the situation. Topics and exercises from the Tobira textbook are covered. Students will practice, for example: making requests, confirming information, agreeing, apologizing, declining, conveying information, expressing opinions, explaining, and storytelling.

Learning outcomes
|
This course is designed to further develop students' Japanese language skills, focusing specifically on spoken and written language, at the intermediate level.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be more proficient in their use of spoken and written Japanese at the intermediate level.

Homework, active participation in classes (max. 3 absences), writing 2 short and 1 longer essay (including submission by the specified deadline + their correction to the final form), completing 3 conversation tasks (self-introduction, short story, pronunciation and intonation practice)
