Topics: Nationalism and its present display U.S. occupation and post-war reforms Selected politicians of modern, post-war history Bilateral relations Japan - USA, China, Koreas, Russia / the Soviet Union, South-East Asia Political parties in Japan Internationalisation, globalisation and social changes National minorities Development of post-war economics, bubble economy

Learning outcomes
This seminar is focused on cross-sectional topics of Japanese history (since Meiji period), emphatically the political development of the modern state and international relations.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will have an enhanced knowledge of individual periods of Japanese history, and will be able to analyse the topics on the basis of historical and international context.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Japanese history on the Bachelor´s programme level.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Oral exam, Student performance, Seminar Work

Reading (cca 400 pages), oral presentation, written report, oral exam (covering the topics from History Seminars 1 and 2).
