Learning outcomes
The goal of the course is to raise the students' awareness about the current world challenges and issues that the organisation Amnesty International are focusing on in their campaigns and at the same time enhance the skill to read and interpret professionally focused texts in English, to acquaint the students with the stylistic form of a report, expand their knowledge of the currently used terminology and of the potential difficulties related to translating such texts into Czech. Among the main methods applied is team work and peer review. The reports are provided by with the Amnesty International organisation based on their current needs and are used to address wider Czech public.
Student is aware of the current world challenges and issues, is more skilled at reading and interpreting professionally focused texts in English, is well acquainted with the stylistic form of a report, knows the current English terminology in topics covered, is aware of the potential problems when translating such texts into comprehensible Czech and knows at least some basic strategies to overcome them. Student also learns to check and proofread translations of other students and provide valuable feedback.
