Course content
Obsah: 1. The concept of ?paradox?, experience with paradoxes, characteristics and methodological approach (Slavkovský). 2. Paradoxes and Christianity in general, paradoxes in the Bible (Slavkovský). 3. Paradoxes of self-understanding and self-development on the path of spiritual maturation (Slavkovský). 4. Paradoxes of spiritual experience ? emotions: enthusiasm and dark night, relationship to the body, time and eternity, outer and inner man (Slavkovský). 5. The strength manifested in humility and sharing one's own fragility (the attitude of kenósis) (Slavkovský). 6. Paradox of the Wounded Healer: Henri Nouwen (Kotvrda). 7. Paradox of the Wounding Healer ? the spiritual abuse: Jean Vanier (Kotvrda). 8. Paradox of the cultivated vulnerability ? fr?re Roger of Taizé (Kotvrda). 9. Paradox of the helpless helper ? Wolfgang Schmidbauer (Kotvrda). 10. Paradox of the Christian Meditation ? John Main (Kotvrda). 11. Sancta meretrix ? Paradox of the Church (Jambor). 12. Work of the people done by God ? - To present paradoxes as phenomena that point to the limits of rationality as commonly understood in contemporary culture. - To show the connection between paradoxes as historical and linguistic phenomena and situations in the life of the Church. - To highlight paradoxes as phenomena whose understanding can have therapeutic effects. - To indicate the implications for spirituality and pastoral care that reflect a more complex understanding of spiritual wisdom. Learning Outcomes: - The ability to understand the issue of paradoxes and their correlation with language, rationality, theology, and wisdom. - The ability to explain the significance of paradoxes for the life of the Church and to apply this knowledge in one's own life. - The ability to understand the role of paradoxes in spirituality and pastoral care. - The ability to critically evaluate literature on the subject.
