Learning outcomes
Drawing on the teaching of the Second Vatican Council and its subsequent development by the Church's Magisterium and systematic theology, the course "Trinitarian Theology and Theology of Creation" aims, first of all, (1) to provide fundamental knowledge of the Catholic Church's teaching on God as Creator, on the act of creation, and on the created world as such, as well as to present a theological exploration of the principal truths of this teaching on the basis of the interpretation of Sacred Scripture, the Church Fathers, and significant authors from the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions. At the same time, the course aims (2) to provide an introduction to Trinitarian theology. This will consist in a comprehensive presentation of Catholic teaching on the Triune God. The approach will be neither philosophical nor based on the study of religion, but dogmatic. This means that the Triune God will be considered in the light of God's self-revelation in the person of Jesus Christ, as deepened and handed on in the faith of Christ's community (the Church). For this reason, particular emphasis will be placed on those literary sources that help to provide a better understanding and correct interpretation of the fundamental terms, concepts, ideas, and formulations of the Christian faith in the Trinity, as professed above all by the Roman Catholic Church. These sources are: Sacred Scripture, Church documents (first and foremost the Catechism of the Catholic Church), and texts of dogmatic Trinitarian theology. Reference will also be made, however, to Trinitarian interpretations by authors from other Christian denominations.
Upon completion of the course and after studying the required literature, you will be able to: - know and interpret the fundamental truths of Catholic teaching on creation and on God the Creator; - understand and navigate the major questions concerning the "status of creation" of the world (the human person, nature, etc.) and the creative relationship between God and the world; - know the fundamental truths of the doctrine of God as Trinity; - interpret Trinitarian truths (determine their proper meaning and their connection with spirituality) in the light of their historical development (during the patristic period and the ecumenical councils of the first century) and in the spirit of the post-conciliar Magisterium of the Catholic Church; - understand and navigate the teachings on the Trinity of the non-Catholic Churches of the Christian East and West; - know some important Trinitarian models, both past and present; - discover the significance and contemporary relevance of Trinitarian truth for the concrete life of the Christian community (pastoral, liturgical, sacramental, spiritual, and evangelising).
Prerequisites
No special prerequisites are required for the study of this course.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

1. It is important that the lectures be followed and that both the required and recommended literature be studied in constant reference to the "outlines" (which will be made available progressively by the lecturer in Moodle as the lectures proceed); their thematic-interpretative and bibliographical indications provide the authoritative framework for studying the topics and achieving good results. In the "outlines", a filled circle next to an item of literature indicates core, i.e. required, reading; an empty circle indicates recommended, i.e. optional, reading. 2. The course places particular emphasis on presenting the topics that are addressed in a scholarly manner in the core/required reading. It is therefore essential that every participant in the course concentrate on studying the core/required literature, while following the lecturer's instructions given in the course of the lectures. 3. The topics for the final examination will be made available at the end of the course. 4. To complete the course successfully, students are required to: - read all the required study texts and seek to understand them as fully as possible; - while reading and seeking to understand these texts, keep in mind the assigned topics for the final examination; preparation of each topic requires the student to follow the (lecture) "outlines"; - pass the final oral examination, demonstrating knowledge of the material covered both in the lectures and in the required texts.
