Learning outcomes
The course introduces participants to the study of culture. In its broadest sense, the concept of culture expresses a specifically human way of organizing and realizing action objectified in material and mental artifacts. The course combines two approaches to culture. The first part of the semester introduces students to selected concepts in the field of cultural anthropology, and the second part of the semester introduces students to the themes, theories, and representatives of cultural studies. During the seminars, students will read and evaluate professional literature on the mentioned topics, thus deepening their knowledge of the issue and will cultivate their critical thinking.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Two absences are allowed in the course. The form of compensation for more than two absences (regardless of the cause) is agreed individually with the teacher during the semester. The course ends with a credit and an examination. Students receive credit for continuous work during the semester. Students contribute to the content of selected classes by presenting a case study chosen according to their own interest. The prerequisite for successful completion of the course is preparation for the class (knowledge of the assigned text) and active discussion of the topic in the seminar part of the class. Readiness for the class can be randomly tested by means of a short test at the beginning of the seminar part of the class. Students bring the assigned text with them to class, preferably in printed form. The course literature is chosen so that it is generally available and can be obtained by the student from the library. Physical presence in class does not automatically mean that the requirements have been met - in the event of a student's unpreparedness, the instructor may assign make-up work as in the case of physical absence. Completion of such an assignment is mandatory for the student. The credit requirements must be met by the end of the class period of the credit week. A student who has not met the requirements for credit cannot sit for the examination. The examination will take place during the examination period in the form of a written test. The content of the test will include information from required texts, lectures and presentations. The examination will also test the ability to reflect independently on a cultural artefact on the basis of acquired knowledge and correctly used terminology. In the event that a student has not completed the course, and is enrolled in it repeatedly, he/she must again meet the requirements set forth for credit and examination (unless otherwise agreed upon with the instructor at the beginning of the semester).
