Course content
Contents of the thematic block Part of the mission of religious organizations in society is to express themselves on current ethical issues and participate in the formation of social discourse. Therefore, this subject is an integral part of the study curriculum. Lecture blocks within the course will focus on: - Questions of justice in society - Environmental protection - Ethical issues at the beginning and end of human life - Changes in family life in today's society - Gender theories - Birth control - Controversial means to ensure security in society (torture, death penalty) - Research ethics Lectures will take place both in the form of regular lectures by the guarantor, but also in the form of so-called lectures by Czech and foreign specialists called in the framework of internationalization. Seminars are divided into thematic (dedicated to seminar teaching - 50 hours) and reflexive (dedicated to reflection on the study and the course of education 5 hours). Reflexive seminars are led by the program guarantor. The topics of the seminars will follow the topics of the lectures with a focus on a specific problem and the discussion it evokes in society. Seminars are realized in various teaching forms, eg in the form of a seminar workshop, panel discussion, focus groups, study and presentation of partial topics in classical seminar teaching, etc.). Selected seminars will also be led by the guarantor or invited lecturers. Exercise topics - within the course, students individually process through a selected media (text, audio, multimedia, web, blog, graphic presentation, video, etc.) a selected topic from the discussed issues - submit the processed topic as a sub-project, including thematic and communication analysis and a list of used sources - at the same time prepare a communication and content analysis of the project of one of their randomly selected colleagues Choice of media exercises - web, audiovisual, multimedia (by enrolling the appropriate group in the course schedule). Topics of methodological seminars - communication in the age of multimedia Exercises will take place in the form of practical workshops. Selected exercises will be supervised by the guarantor.

Learning outcomes
Objectives of the thematic block As part of the study of the subject, students will gain - basic knowledge of selected issues of current social discourse - ability to search, update, reflect and interpret knowledge in the field of current social discourse - ability to apply ethical principles and cultural paradigms in the study and interpretation of knowledge in the field of current social discourse - ability to process reflected topics by various forms of media communication - the ability to defend the chosen interpretation procedure and model in accordance with ethical principles and respect for culture in the media processed and presented topics
Inquiry and Analysis The thematic block develops students' ability to independently identify, update, interpret, and critically process information concerning current social and ethical issues. Upon successful completion of the course, the student: identifies, verifies, and critically evaluates relevant scholarly and publicly available sources; analyses current social issues from different perspectives; interprets acquired knowledge with regard to its social, ethical, and cultural contexts; formulates conclusions supported by scholarly evidence and defends the chosen interpretative approach. Ethical Reasoning Ethical reflection is a fundamental element of the entire thematic block. Students apply ethical principles to specific social issues, including justice, environmental protection, questions concerning the beginning and end of human life, family, gender, the death penalty, torture, and research ethics. Upon successful completion of the course, the student: identifies ethical issues and value conflicts in current public discourse; applies relevant ethical principles and modes of argumentation to specific social questions; compares different ethical approaches and value perspectives; defends their own position while respecting differing opinions and cultural contexts. Communication This competence is particularly important for the course because students not only analyse social issues but also independently process and communicate them through various media formats, including written texts, audio, video, multimedia, websites, blogs, and graphic presentations. Upon successful completion of the course, the student: adapts the content and form of communication to a particular medium and target audience; develops a current social or ethical topic using an appropriate media format; clearly presents and defends the chosen content and communication strategy.

Students who have already completed the English-language block will be allowed to submit their final paper in Czech.
