Learning outcomes
Students will understand general sociological concepts and the basics of sociological argumentation. At the introductory level, they will become familiar with some issues in applied sociology. They will thus be provided with basic information about sociology, its approaches, methods, and subject matter. The sociological dimension of social work from the perspective of society as a whole, its parts, and the clients will be outlined on an ongoing basis. Emphasis will be placed on the definitions of basic sociological concepts, basic sociological hypotheses about phenomena relevant to social work, and a description of the context in which social work takes place, particularly with regard to cultural, political, economic, and environmental aspects.
