Course content
|
1. An introduction to relevant supplementary literature (critical editions of the New Testament; supplementary materials: dictionaries and grammars) 2. The alphabet, accents, aspirations, pronunciation 3. Basic grammatical categories of nouns and verbs 4. Explanation of basic Greek morphology (nouns, adjectives: 1st-3rd declensions; overview of Greek pronouns; the most commonly used prepositions, conjunctions and particles; verbal morphology: the indicative, infinitive and imperative of the present, imperfect, future and aorist tenses of vowel- and consonant-stem verbs) 5. Reading, translation, commentary and discussion of selected simple texts from the New Testament

Learning outcomes
|
The focus of the lecture is a study of New testament Greek. Student will learn basic grammatical structure of the Greek language (morphology and syntax) and will proceed to independent reading of Greek texts of the New Testament with help of a vocabulary. Student will also get acquainted with existing grammar books and lexicons.
The student will gain the necessary knowledge for independent reading of Greek text of New Testament, esp. the Gospels.

Prerequisites
|
Prerequisite is a basic knowledge of the New Testament and/or an interest in reading a Greek text of NT.

|
Oral exam, Dialog
Active approach of the student to teaching and ability to translate easy Greek text with the help of a dictionary
