The aim of the course is to present an unhealthy lifestyle as a public policy issue and to highlight its specific features within the context of public policy. The course will address the highest levels of political decision-making (i.e., national and supranational levels) and will characterize the institutions and organizations involved in promoting an active lifestyle. It will introduce national strategies from abroad, particularly from Canada (e.g., ParticipAction), Finland, the Netherlands, and Australia. Significant emphasis will be placed on the introduction and understanding of major supranational epidemiological scientific studies such as HBSC, ESPAD, and GSHS. The course will also briefly address studies such as PISA, MONICA, the Framingham Heart Study, and the British Doctor Study. Another part of the course will focus on the implementation of scientific study results into policies and will present key global and European strategic documents related to the promotion of physical activity. The final part of the course will focus on European and Czech national priorities in science and research, European research grant schemes, and Czech national priorities in science and research. Basic parameters for evaluating scientific projects and their outcomes will also be introduced.
