Course content
The course is conducted throughout the entire period of standard doctoral studies. Each year, students present the progress of their dissertation projects, meaning that each student presents their dissertation project three times. The course is designed so that, ideally, all students and supervisors from all years meet together in order to become familiar with the topics of dissertations across the doctoral program. The evaluation committee consists of at least two members of the field council and the supervisor of the given dissertation, who serves as the chair. Within the course, students present the ongoing results of their dissertation projects. As part of these presentations, they introduce the project and the dissertation theses, discuss the chosen methodology and theoretical framework, and share partial results. Through this process, students acquire, practice, and develop essential skills and competencies: In academic writing: the ability to create bibliographic references, knowledge of ethical issues and principles of academic work, written presentation of results, familiarity with various academic text genres, structuring of texts, and time management of their work; In academic presentation: participation in scholarly discussion, presentation and defense of one?s own ideas based on convincing and well-grounded argumentation, and the ability to remain open to other disciplinary and methodological perspectives. The committee (as well as fellow students) provides the student with critical feedback on each step of their research and dissertation development.
