The goal of the course is for the student to: be able to interact with different types of clients, be proficient in a variety of verbal and non-verbal communication methods, be able to establish and conduct a conversation with a client, be equipped with the knowledge necessary to understand the nature of social work with individuals, including an orientation to relevant theories and the ability to adequately utilize the elements contained in those theories. The core mission of the course is to train the basic skills needed to practice social work. Emphasis is placed on stimulating client activity, guiding clients toward independence and orienting them to healthy perspectives.
