Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to deepen and broaden students' understanding of contemporary special education and to build on the knowledge acquired in the course Fundamentals of Special Education 1, so that students are able to orient themselves in subsequent special educational disciplines and their basic interrelations. The course seeks to ensure that students understand the system of support for persons with special needs within selected sectors, in particular education, healthcare, and social services, and that they are oriented in the basic principles of special educational diagnostics and counselling. An integral part of the course objective is also to familiarise students with the basic characteristics of individual areas of special education in relation to various types of disabilities, disadvantages, and giftedness, thus providing a foundation for their further professional study.
Upon completion of the course, the student will have knowledge of: - the basic concepts, terminology, and foundations of contemporary special education, - the structure and basic interconnections of special educational disciplines, - the system of support for persons with special needs within education, healthcare, and social services, - the principles of special educational diagnostics and counselling, - the characteristics of the main areas of special education in relation to types of disabilities, disadvantages, and giftedness, - the basic links between the type of special needs and forms of professional support.

A prerequisite for successful completion of the course is the fulfilment of the requirements set by the instructor at the beginning of the semester, in particular the student's active participation in classes, including regular attendance, engagement in professional discussions, and completion of ongoing study obligations arising from the organization of the course.
