Course content
Course Objective The aim of the course is to present students with a basic theoretical definition of the field, its concepts and approaches within ethical, legislative, and historical contexts in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Learning outcomes
Course Objective The aim of the course is to present students with a basic theoretical definition of the field, its concepts and approaches within ethical, legislative, and historical contexts in the Czech Republic and abroad. Course Topics Concepts of the field, its position within the system of sciences, conceptual framework, and terminology. System and organisation of institutions for the target groups of the field. The family as a risk factor in the development of problem behaviour in children; institutional and protective education; the performance of social and legal protection of children and youth. Behavioural disorders: classification, terminology, aetiology, developmental aspects, and intervention options. Hyperkinetic disorders: classification, terminology, aetiology, developmental aspects, and intervention options. Types of risk and problem behaviour. Social disadvantage and social exclusion: causes, prevention, manifestations, intervention programmes; specific characteristics of Roma families and Roma children in the context of school education and pre-school preparation. CAN syndrome - child abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect: causes, manifestations, diagnosis, intervention options, protection, and prevention. Emotional disorders and other mental disorders. Prevention of risk behaviour in schools and educational institutions; specific and non-specific primary prevention programmes.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: Explain the basic concepts of the field, its conceptual framework, terminology, and position within the system of sciences. Demonstrate knowledge of the system and organisation of institutions serving the target groups of the field and understand their role within the system of care. Analyse the role of the family as a risk factor in the development of problem behaviour in children and demonstrate basic orientation in institutional and protective education and the system of social and legal protection of children and youth. Characterise behavioural disorders, including their classification, aetiology, developmental aspects, and basic intervention options. Describe hyperkinetic disorders, including their terminology, causes, developmental specifics, and intervention approaches. Differentiate types of risk and problem behaviour in children and adolescents. Explain issues of social disadvantage and social exclusion, their causes, manifestations, and prevention and intervention strategies, with particular attention to the specific characteristics of Roma families and Roma children. Identify forms of the CAN syndrome (child abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect) and demonstrate basic knowledge of diagnosis, protection, prevention, and intervention. Differentiate selected emotional and other mental disorders and assess their impact on behaviour and educational functioning. Demonstrate knowledge of the prevention of risk behaviour in schools and educational institutions and distinguish between specific and non-specific primary prevention programmes.
