Course content
The subject deals with the history and specific features of surgery distinguishing it from other specializations. Students become familiar with individual surgical wards, operating theatres and intensive care units. Surgical documentation is detailed, with a special focus on examination of surgical patients. Students learn about basic surgical procedures (vascular access, thoracentesis, abdominal paracentesis), preparing patients for surgeries and planning certain surgical procedures. They also learn about the algorithm for examining patients with acute abdominal pain and differential diagnosis for individual patients. All topics include the basic symptoms and signs, their treatment and post-operative care.

Students in the Bachelor programme will be introduced to the surgical patient. They will acquire knowledge regarding aetiology, diagnosis and therapy of selected surgical affections.
The student will be knowledgeable in the issues of surgical diseases, traumatology, anesthesiology and resuscitation, as well as acute surgical conditions.
