Introduction to epidemiological method of work 2. Epidemiological measures of frequency and association 3. Basic epidemiological concepts 4. Designs of epidemiological studies 5. Descriptive studies 6. Analytical observational and interventional studies 7. Screening and diagnostic tests 8. Basic characteristics of the epidemic process 9. Factors influencing the process of disease transmisssion 10. Epidemiological investigation in the focus of infection 11. Preventive and repressive anti-epidemic measures 12. Surveillance of infectious diseases 13. Bioterrorism 14. Molecular epidemiology 15. Disinfection, methods and effectiveness control 16. Sterilization, methods and effectiveness control 17. Epidemiological method for monitoring of hospital infections 18. The occurence of non-communicable diseases in the world 19. The occurence of non-communicable diseases in the Czech Republic

Learning outcomes
The subject is conceived as theoretical and is part of a complex of subjects enabling students to work in all spheres of health care. Students will learn to use different methods to promote the health of individuals, groups and societies. The subject involves topics on basics of hygiene, epidemiology and epidemiological methods of work. An integral part of the subject is also general epidemiology, especially the basic epidemiological concepts, characteristics of the epidemic process, the principles of immunity, disease surveillance, sterilization and disinfection.
After completing the course student should be familiar with the epidemiological method of work, he should be oriented on epidemiological measures of frequency and association, he should be able to evaluate and design epidemiological studies. He should be able to prepare preventitive measures and investigations of disease outbreak, focus on disinfection and sterilization and screening.

Seminar Work

Preparation and presentation of seminar works. Proof of self-study by a list of studied literature. Individual study.
