1. Concept and importance of the field of social medicine 2. Contents of the field of social medicine in relation to other disciplines 3. Historical method in social medicine 4. Health as a value and way of dealing 5. Models of health and health economics 6. Definition of illness, development of opinion on the origin of the illness 7. Population and risk access to health and disease, natural history of disease, causality and etiology 8. Nozology, nomenclature and international classification of diseases 9. The consequences of disease for society 10. Demographic statics - population and its structure 11. Demographic dynamics - the natural currency of the population 12. Demographic dynamics - the economic and administrative currency of the population 13. Population health indicators (life expectancy, infant mortality, morbidity) 14. Health and disease determinants (theories and approaches) and biological determinants 15. Health determinants - social - lifestyle and lifestyle 16. Health determinants - social - environment and health care 17. Inequalities in health I. - theory and methods of measurement 18. Inequalities in health II. - the most significant differences in the world, in the EU and in the Czech Republic 19. Health literacy I. - theory, definition and meaning 20. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the meaning and history of the field of social medicine, clarify the basic concepts of health and disease and their determinants in a structured manner; explain the social and economic consequences of the disease; describe the development of opinions on the origin of diseases, the natural history of the disease, the iceberg phenomenon, nosology, nomenclature and classification of diseases, emphasize the importance of health demography, including so-called demographic threats (population aging, migration) and use indicators of the health status of the population to point out the inequalities in health among countries, but also within individual countries; emphasize the importance of health literacy according to population groups. Students will be able to analyze the process of providing health services, the role and availability of health institutions; to understand the importance and procedure of creating recommended procedures for public health; they will gain a comprehensive view of the continuous process of education of all healthcare workers.
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to orientate himself in the concept of social medicine, and in importance of its field. The student recognizes the social aspects of health and illness, understands the natural history of illness in the social context and will be able to explain the importance of the international classification of diseases. The student will be familiar with all aspects of demographic statics and dynamics that are essential for public health focus and will be able to use demographic methods in the assessment of health inequalities in the world, the EU and the Czech Republic. The student will be able to explain the process of provision of health services from the social point of view as well as within the framework of the legal regulation, he will recognize the medical institutions according to different types of breakdowns.

The individual presentation of the theses of the selected project from the field of social medicine and determinant of health; collective presentation of the analysis of the socio-demographic phenomenon in international and time contexts; oral exam.
