Course content
The student will perform the following exercises: - monitor basic life functions - learn about measurement options and physiological values, scoring systems - evaluate according to clinical status, monitored data and laboratory results - use verbal and nonverbal communication techniques with patients - use educational methods - satisfy needs - hygienic care, nutrition, pain relief - pre-operative care for acute conditions - assist physicians in emergency procedures - maintain asepsis when dressing wounds and changing the dressing - perform complex nursing care for a patient with a disorder of consciousness or analgosedated patient - provide airway care for artificial ventilation - keep records in the nursing documentation - know the CPR procedure and the use of available CPR equipment

Learning outcomes
The aim of practical training is to consolidate and supplement professional knowledge, skills and manual habits for the practical handling of the care for patients with endangered or failing basic life functions in surgical disciplines; to learn to work in an interdisciplinary team, to assess clinical status, to communicate with the patient and family.
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to work in the department of surgery and surgical ICU.

100% attendance in the entire practical trainig. Writing a seminar paper on a topic related to the department.
