Course content
Main topics of the course: Literary research, search strategies for finding relevant resources and working with them. Ethical and Legal Aspects of Writing Professional Texts. Valid CSN - ISO. Quotations and paraphrases, links in the text. Writing bibliography. Topic of the thesis - formulation of research questions or problems, goals of thesis, possibly hypotheses and selected methods (research techniques) in the working text of the abstract of thesis annotation. The assignment of the diploma thesis, the procedure of changing the assignment. Structure of work. Editing text as a whole. Editing and arranging parts of the text. Submission, reviews and defence.

Learning outcomes
The course explains the principles of searching for relevant literary resources and and their evaluation; informs about formal requirements for a diploma thesis. The course gives recommendations how to work with text; how to paraphrase, how to work with links; processing bibliography. Students learn how to prepare and submit thesis assignment, how to prepare annotation and thesis abstracts; the course gives information about submission and defence of the thesis.
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to formulate research questions or problems related to the thesis, to set the aims of the thesis, to choose a research strategy, to submit the materials for the assignment of the diploma thesis.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Seminar paper I Outputs of the research in relevant sources about the selected topic (with a description of the research strategy and its results) - a 2-page text on the selected topic (using numerous paraphrases and references in the text) and bibliography. Seminar paper II Working title of the thesis, working formulation of research question or a problem, aims, possible hypotheses and selected methods (research techniques) + working text of abstract in thesis annotation. Completion and submission of the ""Diploma Thesis"" form. The student is obliged to work with the course study support accessible in the EDIS e-learning system (edis.upol.cz/fzv).
